Tutoring
Private tutoring and academic support
One-to-one online tutoring for clearer thinking, stronger writing, and more workable study practices. Sessions are arranged by enquiry.
My approach is calm and structured. The aim is coherence: understanding what you are trying to say, building an argument that holds, and leaving with concrete next steps.
Make an enquiry How it worksThis is academic tutoring only. I do not provide therapy, diagnosis, or clinical advice.
What I can help with
Students usually come when they understand parts of a topic but struggle to organise their thinking, translate reading into writing, or stabilise an argument.
- argumentation and critical thinking
- essay and dissertation structure
- research literacy and reading strategy
- reflective writing with clarity
- study systems that actually stick
If you are unsure whether your topic fits, send a short description and I will tell you plainly.
What I don’t do
- I do not write assignments for you.
- I do not guarantee specific grades.
- I do not assist with academic misconduct.
How it works
- Enquiry: you describe what you need help with
- Fit check: I confirm whether I can help and suggest a session length
- Session: we work through the problem and produce a plan
- Optional follow-up: you may send a revised outline or draft
If you have accessibility needs (pacing, breaks, written prompts), include that in your enquiry.
Format: online (Zoom / Google Meet)
Session length: 30 minutes (standard), with longer sessions available by arrangement
Rate: £25 per 30 minute session
Deadlines: include date and time zone
Pricing, scheduling, and cancellations
The standard session is 30 minutes. This is usually enough to clarify an argument, stabilise an outline, or identify exactly what needs to happen next.
Longer sessions can be arranged where the task requires it (e.g. dissertation structure, literature review strategy, or working through complex material).
Rate: £25 per 30 minutes
Rescheduling: if you need to move a session, please give as much notice as possible.
Cancellations: cancellations with reasonable notice are fine. If a session is cancelled at very short notice, I may not be able to offer a replacement slot that week.
No-shows: if you miss a session without notice, that session is normally treated as used.
If you are dealing with health instability or unpredictable caring responsibilities, mention this in your enquiry and we can set expectations accordingly.
Orientation
My background is in psycholinguistics and clinical linguistics, and this shapes how I tutor: slow reading, explicit structure, and attention to how claims are formed.
I work best with people who want a non-performative space to think and write. We aim for work that holds together, not work that merely looks fluent.

FAQ
What can we cover in 30 minutes?
Typically: clarifying your argument, producing an outline, improving a paragraph pattern, diagnosing why a draft isn’t holding together, or creating a reading strategy for a specific paper or chapter.
Do you tutor GCSE/A-Level?
Sometimes, depending on subject and fit. If you enquire, include the subject and what you’re aiming for.
Can you help with dissertations?
Yes — especially structure, literature review strategy, and keeping momentum without burning out.
Do you read full essays?
We usually start with the sections that determine the whole piece (question interpretation, thesis, structure, and one representative body section). Full-document feedback may be possible depending on length and timeframe.
What platforms do you use?
Usually Zoom or Google Meet. If you have a preference, include it in your enquiry.
Do you offer therapy or clinical advice?
No. This is academic support only.

If it helps, include a short excerpt (or bullet points) rather than pasting an entire assignment brief. We can clarify the problem quickly and decide what would be most useful in a first 30-minute session.
